Acceptable Software List

Installing additional software not specifically permitted by the Tech Center is prohibited. These activities can reduce the performance of your tablet and expose it to malicious software such as viruses and spyware.

Refer to this document when you are unsure if the software in question is allowed. If it is not listed, you may contact the Tech Center and ask about the software you would like to install. Otherwise, if it does not appear on this list, and you do not have written permission from the Tech Center to use it – then it will be considered unauthorized. Possession, storage, or transmission of unauthorized software will result in appropriate disciplinary action.

• iTunes (use ONLY for charging an Apple device, NOT downloading/storing music)

• Storage of pictures is permitted but no distasteful or objectionable images

Unacceptable Software
WARNING: Any violation or attempt to circumvent any of the rules below will be considered an infraction of the Technology Use Policy!

Movies, Video Clips and Music
• Movies, video clips and music are strictly prohibited from being stored on or played from the tablets
• You may stream audio/video from the Internet (i.e. Youtube, Netflix or Shoutcast) using ONLY applications on the acceptable software list. Streaming of all media is prohibited during school hours.

Games
• Games of any type, with exception to the built in Windows games – are strictly prohibited from being installed, played or stored on the tablets
• Playing the built in Windows games during school hours, including during STUDY HALL is strictly prohibited.

Docks, widgets or other user-interface modifications
• Third party freeware applications in this category are prohibited due the fact that they often contain malware
• You may customize the Windows environment using only the built in tools and themes

Security scanners, network probes or software hacking tools
• Are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Any student who is found to have used such tools will forfeit their tablet, its contents will be searched, disciplinary action taken for each infraction and authorities notified if a crime is suspected to have been committed.

Immoral or Offensive material
• Any material that is inappropriate, suggestive, pornographic, blasphemous, violent, racist, sexist, slanderous, etc. is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Any student who is found to be in possession of such content will forfeit their tablet, its contents will be searched, disciplinary action taken for each infraction and authorities notified if a crime is suspected to have been committed.
Screen Savers
• DO NOT download or install third party screen savers!
Peer to Peer and any File Sharing Programs
• All types are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Any student who is found to be in possession of such software will forfeit their tablet, its contents searched and disciplinary action taken for each infraction found
Other Software Not Listed Herein
• If a software application is not listed in this document, it shall be considered implicitly denied. That means you are to assume it is not allowed. However exceptions may be made if you consult with the Tech Center about your request to install software.

NOTE: Any student that possesses, transmits or stores any of the prohibited contraband listed herein via his or her Cathedral Prep or Villa Maria email account, commits an infraction of the Technology Use Policy.
