January 7, 2009 Announcement

The Diocese of Erie and the Sisters of St. Joseph

collaborate to form a co-institutional school

with a campus at Prep and a campus at Villa Maria.

Over the past several months, the Diocese of Erie and the Sisters of St. Joseph have been in discussions about how the schools might work together and join the best of what each has to offer ultimately providing the very best opportunities for Catholic secondary education in the Erie area.

In an effort to ensure Catholic secondary education for the students of the Erie area, the

Sisters of St. Joseph have agreed with the Diocese of Erie to form a new Diocesan corporation for Catholic secondary education in Erie, PA.   The result is a co-institutional school which will include both Villa Maria Academy and Cathedral Prep effective July 1, 2009.Click here for full announcement.

Update from the President

Dear Members of the VMA family,

With all the preparations for the new school, I thought I’d give you an update on the progress.

The Board of Trustees continues to meet and address Villa business through June.   In addition, a new board is being assembled to plan for the business of the new entity which officially begins July 1, 2009.  The board for the new school will be comprised of members of Villa’s current board and of Prep’s current advisory board.  Many members of the new board have ties to both schools.

The name of the new school has yet to be determined for corporate purposes but know that Villa Maria and Cathedral Prep will be names used for all practical purposes.   The new mission statement is also in the process of being developed and it will include the essence of both schools’ current mission statements.
